Find out what you like beyond the festive version
Holiday plans give you shared memories quickly. They don’t tell you everything about how you fit together. Ask about workdays, friendships, rest and the way each of you handles a busy week. Share something ordinary about yourself rather than keeping every conversation at concert-night intensity.
A quiet call or a simple daytime date can reveal a different rhythm. Notice whether there is curiosity on both sides, whether your boundaries are respected and whether making plans feels collaborative. The goal is to learn about the person, not to test them.
Say what the romance means to you
‘I’ve enjoyed this and I’d like to keep seeing you’ is enough to start. Ask how they feel, then listen without trying to negotiate a yes. If one person wants a seasonal fling and the other wants a relationship, that difference matters even when the chemistry is strong.
Some people say ‘dirty romance’ when they mean playful attraction. You get to decide what intimacy means for you, and so does the other person. Flirting, a Christmas gift or a New Year’s kiss never implies consent to anything else or a promise of commitment.
Make a small January plan
Agree one realistic next step: a call after the trip, another date when schedules settle or time to discuss distance. Avoid turning excitement into promises about moving, marriage or money before you know each other. Consistency is easier to assess when the plan is concrete and manageable.
If you live in different places, discuss time zones, communication habits and who could realistically travel next. Neither person should have to prove affection through an immediate financial commitment. Keep learning whether the relationship works for both of you.
Let the answer be honest
A connection may deepen, stay uncertain or end after December. You can be warm and direct in each case. Don’t keep someone waiting through vague promises if you know you want something different. You can enjoy what happened and still say that continuing isn’t right for you.
If you’re hoping to begin with someone who wants a meaningful relationship, create a DA8N profile and say that clearly. Discovery and mutual connections give you a place to start; there is no guaranteed match or relationship outcome. Keep first meetings public and use block or report if an interaction becomes threatening or pressuring.
